Malawi Agribusiness Investment Meeting

 

About this meeting


This one-day action-oriented meeting sought to identify and prioritize action points, responsibilities, and timeframes to enhance the enabling environment for agriculture investment in Malawi. The agenda for the meeting was shaped by a series of key stakeholder interviews with investors and government bodies. It will also be informed by a tour of four investment-ready agribusinesses that have been capacity built by CASA Malawi.

 

Goal of the meeting

To facilitate discussions between investors, intermediaries, policymakers, donors and agribusinesses around the key challenges and bottlenecks faced for investing in climate positive agriculture in Malawi. These discussions led to a call for action to address some of the underlying issues.

 

Expected outcomes

– A reassessment of agriculture investment opportunities in Malawi

– Enhanced synergies across the agriculture investor community

– A pilot model for conducting an annual agribusiness investment meeting

Skilled in food security, sustainable development, strategic planning, and sustainable agricultural development. He has experience in programme and project management in Africa, and has successfully collaborated with public and private institutions.

Programme manager and Consultant responsible for ongoing projects within NIRAS, including quality assurance. Consultancy assignments, mainly within sustainable agriculture and organic farming, environmental management and gender issues and Market Systems Development.

She is an experienced manager with a demonstrated history of working in the agricultural sector. Skilled in nonprofit organizations, food security, M4P, sustainable development and international development.

Modie Chanza

Investment Promotion Manager, Malawi Investment and Trade Centre

She has worked with MITC for 12 years. She has been actively involved in project development and execution, investment protocol negotiations, planning and research, facilitation of foreign investments in Malawi, organizing investment promotion forums and missions abroad, preparing proposals and linking investors to business opportunities.

She is an experienced data analyst and business manager that has worked for over 10 years with AGRA. She leads all the activities related to facilitating investment opportunities between investors, agribusinesses and government delegations at the AGRF Dealroom.

He has spent most of his FCDO (ex-DFID) career in East Africa where he specialised in trade and regional economic integration issues.  He was Vice-Chair of TradeMark East Africa for eight years, and also represented the UK on the Board of Msingi Ltd, a company established to grow high potential industries in the region.

He has over 20 years of experience in Policy and Development work in Malawi and Sub-Saharan Africa in areas of public finance, program management, trade and investment, food security, health and HIV/AIDS.
